As is always the case, the NFL regular season is filled with players who haven't met our expectations yet. We weekly talk through the current state of things in our segment called - "Peace or Panic."
If you're listening now, you know who you might be panicking about—players who've gotten off to a slow start or had a down week this past week.
Our fantasy coaches, Trip Smith and Bryce Johnson, share their thoughts below.
Peace or Panic Week 6: Fantasy Football Breakdown
As we head into Week 7 of the NFL season, some major fantasy football questions loom. Are your players destined to thrive, or is it time to cut ties? Let’s break down the "Peace or Panic" debate across a few key players.
Saquon Barkley: Peace or Panic?
Saquon Barkley has had a rough week, putting up just seven fantasy points in his last outing. Before that, though, he was relatively solid. The question is, should you start to panic?
Despite this dip in performance, there’s no reason to be overly concerned about Barkley. His role in the offense is crucial, and the Giants have shown that when they run the offense through him, they’re at their best. While the Eagles had an impressive win, it's not time to hit the panic button on Barkley. In fact, he could be a buy-low target if the manager in your league is starting to lose faith.
Verdict: Peace
Zach Moss: A Sinking Ship?
Zach Moss has been frustrating to own in recent weeks, posting back-to-back games under 10 points and seeing just six carries last week. Chase Brown, though a bit banged up, is starting to make a case for more playing time, despite a fumble in his recent game.
The reality is Moss’s days as a reliable option are numbered. It’s clear that the Bengals have figured out that Chase Brown is the better back. If you have Moss, try to trade him for anything you can get before his value drops further. His role is likely diminishing as Brown gets healthier, and it's time to move on.
Verdict: Panic
Jaylen Warren: Hold On Tight
Jaylen Warren is a name that generated some hype last year, but this season has been tough. Averaging only five fantasy points per game and coming off a six-carry, seven-yard performance, many fantasy managers are ready to give up. But don’t panic just yet.
Warren is likely going to get dropped in a lot of leagues, which presents a great buy-low opportunity. Naji Harris has been performing well, but Warren still has more long-term upside in this offense. If Russell Wilson finds his rhythm and the Steelers’ offense starts to click, Warren could emerge as a key piece during playoff time. Don’t overlook him when he becomes available in the coming weeks.
Verdict: Peace
Fantasy football is all about navigating the ups and downs, and while some players may be testing your patience, there are opportunities to capitalize on others’ panic. Keep a level head, make smart moves, and be ready to pounce when the time is right. Week 5 may be stressful, but holding your nerve could lead to long-term success.
