As is always the case, the NFL regular season is filled with players who haven't met our expectations yet. We weekly talk through the current state of things in our segment called - "Peace or Panic."
If you're listening now, you know who you might be panicking about—players who've gotten off to a slow start or had a down week this past week.
Our fantasy coaches, Trip Smith and Bryce Johnson, share their thoughts below.
Week 7 Peace or Panic: Fantasy Football Edition
Welcome to another week of Peace or Panic, where we break down which players should give you confidence or cause you concern heading into the second half of the fantasy football season. Let’s dive into this week’s most pressing players.
Patrick Mahomes:
Verdict: Panic
Yes, it feels strange to panic about Patrick Mahomes, but from a fantasy football perspective, it’s time to be concerned. While the Chiefs are undefeated at 6-0, Mahomes currently ranks as QB 22 in fantasy. The key issue? The Chiefs don’t need Mahomes to sling the ball like crazy anymore. Their defense is solid, and they’re winning games without shootouts. With Kansas City focusing on postseason success rather than putting up massive offensive numbers, Mahomes isn’t likely to deliver the 300-yard, multi-touchdown games we’ve come to expect. If you can package him for a higher-ranked QB like Josh Allen or a top-tier player, it’s worth considering.
Devin Singletary:
Verdict: Panic
After a few flashes earlier in the season, the Giants' Devin Singletary is officially in Panic territory. The Giants offense, led by Daniel Jones, has been inconsistent at best, and Singletary’s injury issues haven’t helped. Add in the emergence of Tyrone Tracy, and it’s hard to trust Singletary moving forward. While there may be moments where he regains some relevance, the safer bet is to move on and look for more reliable options at running back.
Tyrone Tracy:
Verdict: Peace
Tyrone Tracy has burst onto the scene with two monster performances, and if you’re on the Tracy bandwagon, there’s reason to stay calm. The Giants need playmakers, and Tracy has proven he can deliver when called upon. While the Giants offense remains shaky overall, Tracy’s ability to step up makes him a potential fantasy asset for the rest of the season. He’s worth keeping an eye on, and if you’re feeling bold, slot him into your lineup in favorable matchups.
Alvin Kamara:
Verdict: Peace
Even though Alvin Kamara has seen a dip in production over the last couple of weeks, this is not the time to panic. Kamara has shown he can be a top-5 running back, and with Derek Carr expected to return soon, the Saints offense should open up. Despite the Saints’ inconsistencies, Kamara is still heavily involved, and once the team gets healthy, he should bounce back. If you can buy low on Kamara, now is the time to do it. Expect him to be a high-end RB2 moving forward.
Chris Olave:
Verdict: Peace
Chris Olave falls into a similar category as Kamara. While his numbers have been underwhelming lately, the Saints’ offense should improve when Derek Carr is back under center. Olave is still a talented receiver in a functional offense, and as long as Carr is healthy, you can expect Olave to be a solid WR2. If you can trade for him at a discount based on recent performance, this is a great time to do so.
Daniel Jones:
Verdict: Panic
If you’ve been riding the Daniel Jones rollercoaster this season, it’s time to get off. Jones has shown flashes against weaker defenses, but overall, the Giants’ offense has been too inconsistent to trust, and Jones’ fantasy value has suffered as a result. With Drew Lock potentially waiting in the wings, there’s no guarantee Jones remains the starter all season. If you’re still holding out hope for a late-season surge, it’s time to move on.
Final Thoughts
This week’s theme is recognizing when to jump ship and when to hold steady. Mahomes’ real-life greatness doesn’t always translate to fantasy success, and the Giants’ offense looks too erratic to count on for the long haul. On the flip side, players like Kamara and Olave present buy-low opportunities as they get healthier and their offenses stabilize. Make your moves wisely, and good luck in Week 7!
